Bermuda Power Boat Association (BPBA) Commodore Robert Cardwell has announced the cancellation of the 2020 Round the Island Power Boat Race.
Cardwell posted on social media, “The BPBA as a sport organization continues to abide by Government directive that all sports events shall cease. This continues to be the case for others - football, cricket and hockey. There does not appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel as to when this restriction will be lifted.
Round the Island has consistently been held every Sunday after Cup Match since 1955. Sadly, Cup Match has been cancelled and so is the 2020 Round the Island event.
The executive continue to monitor Government directives and when we get the green flag we will see if there is any salvage that can be done to our season.
The executive will be getting together soon to discuss the 2021 season. We need to make it extra special and pull out all stops. We will race and we will have social events. If anyone has any ideas as to what you would like to see from your Club please do put your ideas forward.
In the meantime - we hope all are staying as busy as you can and above all do everything to remain safe and adhere to Public Health guidance on being safe.”
