Fishel and UCLA Come from a Goal Down to Win

IslandStats.com
Down 1-0 at the start of the second half, Mia Fishel and her No. 4 UCLA rallied to defeat No. 10 BYU, 2-1, in their home opener at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.

Two players in their comeback season after ACL injuries scored the goals for UCLA. Marley Canales converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute to tie the match, and Sunshine Fontes scored her first collegiate goal in the 74th minute to give UCLA the comeback victory.

After a scoreless first half, BYU struck first off a corner kick, when a loose ball was cleared by a Bruin player off Jamie Shepherd's back and into the back of the net just two and a half minutes into the second period.

UCLA drew level in the 59th minute Mia Fishel was fouled in the box. Canales took the penalty and fired it past goalkeeper Cassidy Smith for her fourth career penalty kick goal.

UCLA scored the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute after Delanie Sheehan found Reilyn Turner on the right side. Turner cut and sent a cross to Fontes in the box, and Fontes shot far post to record the game-winner.

Fishel was named UCLA Player of the Match.
