Sajan Harvey and his Springfield College Men's Soccer teammates fell to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 2-1 in overtime at Henry Steinbrenner Stadium.
The setback puts Springfield College at 3-9-1 overall and 1-3 in NEWMAC. MIT improves to 6-1-5 on the season with a 2-0-2 record in NEWMAC play. Springfield recorded six saves on the day, while MIT were credited with three stops.
It was not until the 70th minute when Springfield broke the scoreless tie in the match. Ian Macala crossed into the box from the left and Jaxon Tamulaites chipped in the pass for the 1-0 lead for Springfield.
In the 84th minute, MIT responded to even the score with a Ivan Jutamulia goal from the right side. With three minutes remaining, Springfield had a chance for the game winner when Andrew Ma attempted a header that MIT defended, forcing overtime.
In the extra period, Jutamulia scored after a series a moves that sealed the victory for the 2-1 overtime victory for MIT.
