The Saltus Elite Athlete Programme (SEAP) announced the Class of 2022 student-athletes with college commitments:
Sancho Smith: Track & Field – Clayton State University, Georgia Massassi Maxwell-Smith: Track & Field – Coker University, South Carolina Emily Cabral: Soccer – Nova Southeastern University, Florida Cody Robinson: Soccer – Thomas College, Maine
The Director of Athletics at Saltus, Darrin Lewis, shared that the recruiting process for US universities remains very competitive due to the pandemic and the recent eligibility rule changes put in place by the NCAA.
The four seniors that signed college commitments received a combination of academic and athletic scholarships to attend their respective universities.
These four students have been part of the Saltus Elite Athlete Programme (SEAP) for their entire High School experience at Saltus.
Their preparation process included strength and conditioning, agility, plyometrics, nutritional information, NCAA registration/eligibility, and many hours of research on the NCSA platform that is offered to all secondary students that are in SEAP.
Lewis said “These students have worked extremely hard over the last four years both academically and athletically.
Recruiting is at an all-time high, resulting in increased competitiveness as the NCAA have offered an extra year of eligibility and have introduced a transfer portal which has made placements very difficult over the last two years.”
Lewis continued, “I commend the student-athletes for the effort and commitment they have displayed during the pandemic as they weren’t able to compete locally for their last two years of high school.
The entire Saltus community wishes them well as they start their collegiate careers as student-athletes.”
