CONCACAF Gold Cup Preliminaries Press Conference

IslandStats.com
It will be a battle of two of the very best goal-scorers in the CONCACAF region when Duckens Nazon and Haiti square off against Nahki Wells and Bermuda in the Second Round of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup Preliminaries on Tuesday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The stakes will be extremely high, as the winner of Tuesday’s affair will punch their ticket to the Gold Cup group stage and slot into Group B with the United States, Canada, and Martinique.

Both nations impressed in their First Round contests in the Prelims. Nazon spearheaded a commanding effort by Haiti in a 6-1 victory over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Nazon scored a goal in each half for Les Grenadiers, who are looking to recapture the excellent form they displayed two years ago in the 2019 Gold Cup when they reached the semifinals.

But Bermuda will pose a very stiff challenge. Wells paved the way for an 8-1 victory against Barbados in which he notched a hat trick. The Bristol City man also made some history along the way, scoring the fastest goal in Gold Cup history when he found the back of the net just 17 seconds in against Barbados.

Tuesday’s match will also serve as a rematch of their 2019 Gold Cup group stage encounter when Haiti rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Bermuda, 2-1, thanks to two Frantzdy Pierrot goals.

Bermuda would like nothing more to avenge that loss and reach a Gold Cup group stage for the second straight time.
