The Bermuda Olympic Association (“BOA”) will join hundreds of National Olympic Committees around the world tomorrow (Tuesday, June, 23rd 2020) to mark Olympic Day with online resources to promote physical activity and put a spotlight on Bermuda’s Olympians.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) launched Olympic Day in 1987 to promote participation in sport by men, women, and children around the world, encouraging them to “Move, Learn and Discover.” National Olympic Committees worldwide host Olympic Day events annually to provide opportunities for the public to be active, learn about Olympic values and discover new sports, as well as provide the opportunity for young people to interact with their countries’ Olympic athletes. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, all 2020 Olympic Day activities have been moved online.
On its website—olympics.bm—the BOA will host a video prepared by the IOC’s Olympic Channel featuring a 25-minute workout with Olympians from around the world. The workout will be available on-demand for the full day on 23 June, exclusively through the BOA website in Bermuda. A PDF version of the Olympic Day workout can be downloaded from the BOA website, as well. The BOA encourages all Bermudians to have fun and join in the workout.
The BOA website will also provide links to video workouts prepared by Bermuda’s own Olympians, including segments from Micah Franklin, Jessica Lewis, Julian Fletcher, Roy Burch, Tre Houston, Shianne Smith and Erica Hawley.

Three new video “vignettes” featuring interviews with athletes who have competed for Bermuda at the past Olympic Games will also debut on Olympics.bm tomorrow. Jenny Smatt (Swimming), Jim Butterfield (Rowing), and Arantxa King (Athletics) speak with Earl Basden about their experiences competing on the world stage, and what it means to be an Olympian.
In addition to locally-hosted Olympic Day content, viewers are encouraged to tune into @olympics on Instagram Live throughout the day, where Olympians around the world will host live workouts at 11:00 a.m. in their local time.
