Bermuda’s start to the CONCACAF Nations Cup Division A Group B did not end well as they were defeated 4 – 1 at the National Sports Center.
The scoreline did not match the effort put in by the Bermuda players in their bid to contain their World Cup opponents.
Panama took the lead in the 30th minute when Gabriel Torres scored. Bermuda had a shout for a penalty, but while appealing for the spot kick that was waved off by the referee, Panama worked the ball up the field and Torres scored.
In the 42nd minute Bermuda would draw level, Reggie Lambe had a shot comeback off the upright, but the ball hit Panama defender Harold Cummings and beat the goalkeeper Jose Calderon.
One minute later Panama was back in front, a ball squared across the box was put away from close range by Rolando Blackburn.
In the 65th minute Torres would add his second of the game and Panama’s third when he scored from close range after Bermuda failed to clear the lines.
With Bermuda looking to pull a goal back in stoppage time, Panama would score a 4th, a freekick just outside the box saw Bermuda goalkeeper Dale Eve join the lines upfront, but the cross was cleared, Eve in an attempt to block a pass was late in a tackle, but the ball fell to substitute Adalberto Carrasquilla who made no mistake from outside the box into an empty net.
