As Bermuda prepare for their CONCACAF Gold Cup match against Haiti this week, the Government of Bermuda today shared its support for the Association of National Sports Governing Bodies (ANSGB) decision to establish Bermuda’s National Sports uniform colors as blue, pink and white.
Last Thursday evening, the public got to see the new team uniforms when Bermuda’s National football team played Guyana, on Friday and Saturday athletes competing in the National Track and Field Championships also wore the new colors and prior to that Bermuda’s Special Olympians competed in the uniform.
According to the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation, in recent months, the ANSGB consulted with its membership to select colors for competition uniforms. As a result, the ANSGB recommended that the uniforms include the colors of blue, pink and white.
In recent times, the national sports uniform colors have been various hues of red and blue. The new colors selected reflect the distinctness of Bermuda, referencing the island’s unique natural attributes such as our blue waters and pink sand.
Today the Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sports, the Hon. Lovitta Foggo, said, “Blue, Pink and White have been determined as the National Colors for team competition uniforms and the Government of Bermuda stands proudly behind the Association of National Sports Governing Bodies’ decision. We have such a great line up of sporting events on the horizon. Events where we can show off our talent and our new national sports uniform colors, and that’s something we should all be excited about.
“The public can expect to see the new uniforms at the CONCACAF Gold Cup football matches this month, during the Carifta Games which will be hosted here in 2020 and worn by our Olympic Team which will be representing Bermuda at the 2020 Summer Olympics. They will also be worn by Bermudians representing the island at a select roster of international sporting events such as tennis and cycling.
“I’m encouraged about what lies ahead for us and we believe that donning our new national sports uniform colors of pink, blue and white will certainly assist with strengthening our national pride and national identity. Many countries are identified by their team colors – such as Brazil, Jamaica, Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago to name a few. Bermuda is pleased to join the long list of countries to now be recognized by our iconic colors.”
