Reggie Lambe and his Cambridge United teammates toughed it out to overcome Macclesfield Town 1-0 in Sky Bet League Two, with Jabo Ibehre returning to bag the winner at a wet and windy Abbey Stadium.
Lambe hit United’s first shot in anger on 12 minutes, cracking a whipping attempt at goal with his right foot from 25 yards that required Macclesfield keeper Rhys Taylor to push over the top with his fingertips.
Lambe was the featured played in the game day magazine saying, “The dressing room was very much bouncing after the win at Swindon on Tuesday. It’s been a productive week, after a tough period where we have had to stick together. To get a draw against the side top of the league away from home last Saturday, and then to go away from home on a Tuesday night and pick up the victory is certainly a step in the right direction for us.
“Straight away you instinctively look forward to the next game, and pretty much from the final whistle we have been excited about getting back out on the pitch against Macclesfield and continuing this little run we’ve started.
“To be honest we knew the turnaround in results would come because of the way we have been playing. We just knew we couldn’t give up and had to keep going and eventually it would pay off like it did at Swindon.
“It sounds simple but all we did Tuesday was defended brilliantly and scored goals when our chances came. That’s what we must take into the next game and then the one after that and just keep building. That will hopefully see us move up the table pretty quickly.”
