Bermuda Carifta Games Spotlight - Ashley Irby

With the Bermuda CARIFTA GAMES team announced, Islandstats.com will begin the countdown to the Games with a Spotlight on each Athlete that will represent Bermuda.

Today we bring you Ashley Irby.

Name: Ashley Irby

Age: 16 years old

Sport: Track

Q. How did you first get involved in your Sport?

A.
I first got involved when I was entered in running events at primary school for Sports day. I did quite well in it and enjoyed it so I have continued since and obviously have gotten more serious through the years.

Q. Do you have a particular Sports idol?

A.
I have two Sports Idols:- Usain Bolt and Sydney McLaughlin

Q. When did you realize that you wanted Compete Internationally?

A.
Qualifying last year for CARIFTA made me realize I was ready to compete internationally.

Q. What do you feel needs the most improvement?

A.
Both my start and my third lap in the 1500m need improvement.

Q. Which do you feel needs the least improvement?

A.
My dedication to the sport and training needs the least improvement.

Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of?

A.
My results at the Front Street Mile are probably my most proud moments particularly when I broke the record for the second time, lowering it to 5:23 in 2015.

Q. What are your goals for the rest of Year?

A.
My main goal right now is to have a great CARIFTA experience and to run a personal best in 1500m.

Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you?

A.
Right now, I am in a four times a week training block with my Coach Steve Burgess.

Q. Is this your first CARIFTA Games?

A.
This is the first CARIFTA Track and Field I will be attending. Last year would have been my first time but unfortunately I was unable to attend due to injury.

Q. What do you do when you’re not taking part in your Sport?

A.
When I am not training or competing, I am doing school work, resting and hanging out with my friends and family.
