The Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) will host an information session on the programs for aspiring cyclists aged 13-18 on Tuesday, January 9th at the Police Recreation Club at Prospect. Starting at 5:30 pm, the program will outline the BBA’s youth activities, local racing and the pathway to international representation. The meeting is open to anyone interested in pursuing competitive cycling activities, regardless of experience level.
The BBA has run programming for high school students for more than a dozen years and recently added activities for 13-14’s. The earlier phase is focused on developing bike handling skills and basic endurance while the older group follows a structured training plan focused on development in road cycling competition.
The BBA’s programs are run at no cost to the participants and, where the resources are available, they loan equipment and other gear to participants. Eliminating these financial barriers to entry has been a focus of the BBA, allowing all young athletes who are interested in the sport to give it a try.
Tuesday’s event will outline the programs, expectations of athletes, and the BBA’s plan for long-term athlete development. Though not required, those interested in joining the session can advise the BBA of their interest by emailing info@bermudabicycle.org.
