Racing on a fast Time Trial track in altitude it was always going to be a challenge for the Bermuda cyclist, however, both Hopkins and Conor White put in tremendous performances.
Hopkins crossed the line in a time of 30:49.63, with only Gold Medalist Victor Giraldo from Colombia, clocking a better time of 30:45.47.
Hopkins finished ahead of Joao Rossi from Brazil who claimed the Bronze Medal with a time of 30:59:88.
White who only arrived in Colombia yesterday also had a remarkable performance in the conditions claiming 7th place with a time of 32:04.68.
Hopkins said, “I am really happy with the result from today. It’s been a very long season for me and I was really hoping I could carry the form for a few more weeks for this.
After tapering the last week I knew I was in pretty good form and had a lot of motivation. It was definitely a very hard race and the altitude and heat only added to that.
Luckily before the start, Conor and I had the support of Nic and Dominique so we could really focus on the race. Once I got on the start line I knew I just had to empty myself.
I walked away knowing I had done every in me and I’m really happy with the result.”
