Bermuda Championship Generated Over A Million Dollars
The Butterfield Bermuda Championship, together with joint title sponsors Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) and Butterfield, are pleased to announce the 2023 tournament generated over $1.1 million in charitable impact.

This total was achieved through a combination of different initiatives, including the Butterfield Bermuda Championship Birdies for Charity, the BF&M Volunteer Programme, the Butterfield Bermuda Junior Championship and the Butterfield Bermuda APGA Championship.

Tournament director, Danielle Carrera, said, “We are thrilled to once again report our tournament has had a charitable impact in excess of $1.1 million for Bermuda. This brings our total to over $3.2 million during the lifespan of the event. Due to a generous donation from Mastercard, we were able to increase our match to participating charities within the Birdies for Charity program to 12%, providing further impact. We are eager to welcome more Bermuda charities to benefit from this program for the 2024 tournament.”

The Butterfield Bermuda Championship Birdies for Charity, the tournament’s main charitable driver where sponsors enhance the fundraising efforts of participating Bermuda charities, helped more than 30 entities earn additional dollars in the six months between July and November. A number of charities succeeded in raising the maximum amount of $50,000 through the programme and matching funds were made possible by Butterfield, Bermuda Tourism Authority, Mastercard, Digicel Business, AXA XL, The Hamilton Princess and Beach Club, Somerset Re, SFG Bermuda, BF&M, and Island Construction.

The BF&M Volunteer Programme, which enables the tournament's near 600 volunteers to donate their time to the charity of their choice, helped to raise over $63,000 while also providing vital support to the tournament itself.

Warwick Academy was awarded $5,000 for Annabelle Shah’s junior ticket design in 2023. Annabelle’s winning junior ticket design was produced on all junior tickets distributed at the 2023 event. The 2024 ticket design contest will launch again to schools in Bermuda in September.

With its affiliation to the PGA TOUR, the Butterfield Bermuda Championship stayed true to its commitment to benefit young and aspriring golfers and bring greater diversity to the game. The international Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) event was held again in 2023 on the island’s PGA TOUR host course, with local Bermudians, Chaka Desilva, Jarryd Dillas, and Nick Jones competing. This event will remain on the calendar for the foreseeable future.

In addition, the Butterfield Bermuda Junior Championship presented by Digicel Business, an American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) event, gave over 70 international players aged 12 and above the opportunity to compete, including five Bermudians, Oliver Betschart, Dylan Muso, Sienna Mosquera, Sa-Qui Robinson, and Arman Newton. This event will also continue in Bermuda through to 2026.
