Armstrong Competes in Middle-Distance Events at Rider 5-Way

Nathan Armstrong competed in the Rider 5-Way 2025, hosted by Rider University, participating in both the Men's 800m and Men's 1500m races.

Armstrong displayed his versatility in middle-distance running, taking on the challenge of both events at the meet.

Parsons Achieves Top Ten Finishes at Towson Invitational

Za'Kayza Parsons and her University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field teammates began their outdoor season at the Towson Invitational. Parsons made a strong start to her outdoor campaign, securing top ten finishes in both the Women's 100m and 200m.

Parsons showcased her sprinting ability, demonstrating her consistency across both events.

In the Women’s 200m Preliminaries, Parsons finished 10th overall, clocking a time of 25.49 seconds. This result placed her among the top performers in the event, highlighting her early-season form.

Parsons also competed in the Women’s 100m Preliminaries. She crossed the line in 9th place, recording a time of 12.29 seconds. This performance was just shy of qualifying for the final, but it still represents a strong showing in a competitive field.

The Towson Invitational provided a valuable opportunity for Parsons and her UMBC teammates to begin their outdoor season. Parsons's top ten finishes in both the 100m and 200m are positive indicators of her progress and potential for the season ahead. Her performances at this meet will serve as a good platform for her development.

Basden Siblings Compete at Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational

Livingstone College hosted its 2nd annual Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational Track and Field Meet at Memorial Stadium, an event that saw student-athletes, coaches, and spectators gather for a day of competition.

The meet featured a unique family connection, with siblings Brijette Basden and Tajer Basden representing different universities.

Brijette Basden competed for Shaw University Women's Track & Field. She took part in the Women's 100m Dash, finishing 34th with a time of 13.14 seconds. Brijette also raced in the Women's 200m Dash, clocking 26.83 seconds to finish 28th overall. Brijette also ran the anchor leg for the Shaw University Women's 4x400m Relay A team, which finished 6th with a time of 4:23.29.

Tajer Basden represented Johnson C. Smith. He competed in the Men's 200m Dash, finishing in 42nd place with a time of 23.51 seconds. Tajer also participated in the Men's 400m Dash, finishing 19th overall in 51.18 seconds. Tajer ran the third leg for the Johnson C. Smith Men's 4x400m Relay A Team, which finished 5th with a time of 3:26.59.

The Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational provided a platform for athletes from various universities to compete and showcase their talent. The meet was particularly notable for featuring the Basden siblings, Brijette and Tajer, representing different institutions. Their performances highlighted their commitment to track and field and their contributions to their respective teams.

Outerbridge Stars in Invitational & BNAA Carifta Trials Adds Two

Outerbridge Breaks School Record & Wins 5000m at Invitational

Ryan Outerbridge made a spectacular start to the outdoor portion of his season, delivering a record-breaking performance at the SNHU Spring Invitational.

Outerbridge, competing with his Franklin Pierce Outdoor Track and Field teammates, played a key role in the team's overall fourth-place finish. His individual achievements were the highlights of the meet.

Outerbridge shattered the school record in the Men's Mile, clocking an impressive time of 4 minutes and 19.64 seconds. This remarkable performance saw him cross the line in second place overall, but his record-breaking time will be the lasting legacy of his run.

Outerbridge also demonstrated his dominance in the distance events by winning the 5000m run. He crossed the line in 15 minutes and 7.27 seconds, leading the race by a significant margin of at least seven seconds. This victory showcased his strength and endurance over longer distances.

Outerbridge's performance at the SNHU Spring Invitational was exceptional, marking a significant start to his outdoor season. Breaking a school record and winning the 5000m highlights his talent and potential. His contributions were vital to Franklin Pierce's fourth-place finish.

Bermuda's Carifta Games Numbers of Qualifiers Grows as Two More Qualify

The Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) saw the number of athletes meeting the Carifta Games Standard rise after hosting another Track Meet at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium at the National Sports Center.

Following recent successes, this latest meet produced further qualifying performances, adding to the growing list of Bermudian athletes set to compete at the prestigious Carifta Games.

New Qualifiers:

Amaris Munya met the Qualifying Standard time of 2:23.00 for the Under 17 Women's 800 Meter Run. Munya clocked an impressive time of 2:21.92, securing her place at the Carifta Games.

Sanchez Smith also achieved qualification in the Under 17 Men's 3000 Meter Run. Smith clocked a qualifying time of 9:38.80, surpassing the Carifta Qualifying Standard time of 9:58.00.

These qualifying performances are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the athletes and their coaches. The BNAA's track meets provide crucial opportunities for athletes to strive for qualification.

The addition of Munya and Smith to the Carifta Games team will strengthen Bermuda's representation at the event. The Carifta Games are a significant competition for young athletes in the Caribbean region, and Bermuda's athletes will be aiming to perform at their best.

Two National Record Times Beaten During Relays

Bermudian track and field athletes made their mark at two prestigious meets in the United States, with Shayla Cann competing at the Raleigh Relays and Miles Outerbridge, Arima Turner, and Ellise Dickinson representing Montverde Academy at the Florida State University Relays.

Outerbridge Beats Record Times at Florida State University Relays

If a tail wind exceeds 2 meters per second (3.9 kn) the result cannot be registered as a record on any level.

Miles Outerbridge delivered a record-breaking performance if not for Illegal Winds at the Florida State University Relays High School Track and Field Meet. Outerbridge had already beaten the Bermuda Junior Outdoor Record time in the 200m, clocking 20.83 seconds, but the winds were 2.1 meters.

He continued his form by winning the Boys' 100m Dash in 10.47 seconds. This time beat the 11-year-old record set by Kyle Webb back on July 4th, 2014, marking a remarkable achievement, but the winds were registered at 2.5 meters.

Turner and Dickinson Also Compete

Arima Turner and Ellise Dickinson also represented Montverde Academy at the Florida State University Relays.

Dickinson competed in the Girls' 400m, finishing 17th with a time of 58.81 seconds.

Turner took to the line for the Girls' 100m, finishing with the 25th fastest time, clocking 12.27 seconds.

Cann Competes at Raleigh Relays

Shayla Cann, wearing her Elon University Women's Track & Field uniform, took part in the Raleigh Relays, a highly competitive event held at the Paul Derr Track in Raleigh, North Carolina. Cann competed in the Women's 800m, finishing 10th in Heat 12 and 145th overall with a time of 2:17.16. Cann demonstrated her pacing strategy in the race, completing the first 400m in 1:02.54 and the second 400m in 1:14.62.

The performances of Cann, Outerbridge, Turner, and Dickinson at these prestigious meets highlight the talent and dedication of Bermudian track and field athletes. Outerbridge's record-breaking runs were the standout achievements, showcasing his exceptional speed and potential.
