Bermuda Sailors Continue Optimist World Championships

With the conclusion of the qualifying races during the 2019 Optimist World Championship in Antigua, the sailors are now in their Championship Fleets.

Sebastian Kempe and Christian Ebbin are in the Gold Fleet, Bermuda is the only country to have two sailor in the top 10, Magnus Ringsted and Laura Hupman are in Silver Fleet and Nicole Stovell is in Emerald Fleet.

Today’s conditions were very challenging with squalls moving through the area all day and sailors battling low visibility, 25 knots gusts and rolling waves.

In Gold Fleet, Kempe currently sits in 3rd place with 34 Net Points, Christian Ebbin is in 10th with 64 Net Points.

In Silver Fleet, Magnus Ringsted currently sits in 1st place and 65th overall with 103 Net Points, while Laura Hupman is in 45th in the Fleet and 109th overall with 190 Net Points.

Nicole Stovell is sitting in 9th place in the Emerald Fleet and 201st overall with 225 Net Points.

The team coach said, “The team sailed well today in very difficult conditions. They are working hard to secure their positions in the fleet and I hope they can continue to move up or maintain their positions as racing continues”.
