Bermuda Sailing America's Cup 2017 Day One

USA & France Battle in Opener
Finally the 35th America’s Cup is underway on the waters of the Great Sound. One day after Mother Nature had her say, 36 sailors who are put in a position to afford the boats and everything along with it hit the water.

Oracle Team USA and Groupama Team France competed in Round Robin Race 1 Qualifiers. Oracle Team USA take the win finishing ahead of Groupama Team France by 2 minutes and 11 seconds.

Race 2 saw SoftBank Team Japan and Artemis Racing take to the course, for what many thought would be a good contest.

Despite trailing SoftBank Team Japan at the 4th mark by 17 seconds Artemis Racing would take the win by 13 seconds.

Race 3 saw Emirates Team New Zealand make a big statement as they finished well over 2 minutes ahead of Groupama Team France who have lost their first two races of the 35th Americas Cup.

Land Rover BAR won the fourth race of the day when they defeated Artemis Racing.

The fifth race was a highly anticipated one between Oracle Team USA against Emirates Team New Zealand, a 34th America's Cup final rematch, it was Oracle Team USA who would prevail by just 6 seconds.

The sixth and final race of the day brought racing to a conclusion, with SoftBank Team Japan overcoming Land Rover BAR in a dramatic race. Land Rover BAR were punished with an early penalty.
