Kenni Thompson has handed the AFC Bournemouth women’s team a significant injury boost.
Thompson returned from international duty with Bermuda last month nursing a knee injury which threatened to rule her out for a lengthy period of time.
The 23-year-old, who joined Bournemouth from La Liga outfit Eibar in January 2024, featured twice for her country in a friendly double-header against Belize.
However, following assessment by the Bournemouth medical staff and after having a scan, it was revealed the damage to her right knee was not as serious as had initially been feared.
Thompson missed the whole of pre-season with the club and looked on from the sidelines during their National League opener against Bristol Rovers on Sunday.
Delivering an update, manager Steve Cuss told afcb.co.uk: “We’ve had a scan and some assessments on Thompson’s knee and it isn’t as serious as we first feared.
“She is now on a rehab programme which is working towards her being back within weeks rather than months.
We’re all relieved it isn’t a long-term injury and we’re really pleased with the news.
“It can be a really stressful time for a player when they are going through that assessment period, waiting for news on an injury and the scale of it.
“It’s been difficult for Thompson and we’re just pleased the diagnoses has come back in a positive way and she can recover through her rehab programme.
“We won’t rush that and will give her as much time as she needs. We’re just really pleased that we’ll be able to get her back a lot sooner than we anticipated.”
