Cougars End Hornets Triple Crown Hopes

The Devonshire Cougars were able to hold off the Dandy Town Hornets for the final 5 minutes, plus stoppage time to earn a 3 – 2 Friendship Trophy victory at the National Sports Center Flora Duffy South Field Stadium.

The Dandy Town Hornets started the match with the 17 knots or 20 mph wind at their back, they would take the lead in the 13th minute, when a Tre Manders shot took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net.

The Devonshire Cougars despite going against the strong wind in the first half created several chances, with Lehjuan Simmons striking the upright, while Kurtis Minors had a shot come back off the crossbar, they would finally get rewarded in the 45th minute when Simmons was able to score from close range. A ball across the goal from Domico Coddington was sent back across the face of the goal by Drewonde Bascome, the ball eventually fell to the feet of Simmons who scored.

The Devonshire Cougars took the lead in the 61st minute when Coddington’s looping shot beat the outreached hand of the Dandy Town Hornets goalkeeper Jaiden Manders.

One minute later Bascome would make it 3 – 1, a through ball sent Bascome on his way, however, his shot was blocked by Manders, but Bascome reacted quickest and put the ball away.

The Dandy Town Hornets were given a lifeline when substitute Oneko Lowe scored from close range in the 85th minute making it 3 – 2, but the Devonshire Cougars were not going to be denied on the night as they closed out the match to claim the Friendship Trophy.
