It will be a battle between well-known rivals when Bermuda and Barbados meet in the First Round of the Gold Cup Prelims in CONCACAF 2021 on Friday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
There have been 15 previous meetings between the two nations, with six victories for Bermuda (21 goals) and five for Barbados (19 goals), in addition to four draws.
However, the stakes have never been higher when these two countries meet on Friday.
Bermuda will have the advantage of previous Gold Cup experience, having participated in the 2019 edition when they achieved their first victory in the tournament by defeating Nicaragua 2-0.
Bermuda will be led by dangerous forward Nahki Wells, who scored two goals in that 2019 Gold Cup, plus several other players such as defender and former captain Dante Leverock, who was also part of the squad that debuted in the tournament two years ago.
For their part, the Barbados team is a team on the rise after winning their group in League C at the CONCACAF Nations League and finishing with a solid 1W-2E-1P record in the first round of CONCACAF Qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
A pair of Europe-based forwards like England's Swindon Town's Hallam Hope and Israel's Maccabi Tel-Aviv's Nick Blackman give the Baja Tridents a pair that will put Bermuda's defense to the test.
Two teams that know each other quite well are likely to put on a great show with the possibility of winning a spot in the group stage of the Gold Cup.
