Wells & Bristol City Carabao Cup First Round Draw

IslandStats.com
The 2020-2021 Carabao Cup First Round Draw has been made and Nahki Wells and his Bristol City teammates have been drawn at home to Exeter City in the opening round.

This season's competition has been forced to undergo a revamp and schedule alterations in a bid to get it finished in the jam-packed fixture list to come.

Semi-finals have been reduced to just one leg while we are set to see the first four rounds played out before the end of September.

Premier League clubs as usual will not enter the pot until round two, but several big clubs will still be included from the off.

The tie with Matt Taylor’s League Two side will be played at Ashton Gate Stadium over the weekend of September 5th.

Exeter City suffered heartbreak at Wembley at the end of last season as they missed out on promotion to League One. Since returning to the fourth tier in 2012, the Grecians have lost in the play-off final three times (2017, 2018, 2020). It was under former City boss Terry Cooper that Exeter won their first title though when the 1986 Freight Rover Trophy winner led the Devonshire outfit to champions of the old Fourth Division in April 1990.

Next month's cup contest will be the first meeting between the southern sides since March 2000 - a 1-1 draw in the Auto Windscreens Shield. However, City did beat Exeter 4-0 in the first leg when they met in BS3 in February of that year. The teams have met a total of 55 times competitively, of which the Robins have won on 26 occasions.
