Clemons Signs With Dalkurd from Sweden

IslandStats.com
25-year-old Bermudian midfielder Willie Clemons has signed on a two-year contract with Dalkurd in Sweden.

Clemons, most recently comes from Bodens BK where he played Division 1 football in 2019, Clemons is a national team member of the Caribbean island of Bermuda, where he was among others playing Gold Cup this summer, which is CONCACAF's equivalent of our European playoffs. Clemons played all the matches for Bermuda and in total he has 20 international matches on the track record.

Clemons is a player we have followed throughout the year and who we have worked hard to get to Dalkurd. He has international experience and that is something that we will benefit from. Willie is a fast, irrational type of player with great offensive knowledge, but he also has very good defensive qualities to be a striker. We are confident that he will be an attractive player for Dalkurds fans and he will be valuable to us both offensively and defensively, says sports director Gazmend Bahtiri.

Clemons began his football career at home in Bermuda but moved to North America in his teens to study. He initially ended up at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Canada. But after a year, he switched schools to Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. There he studied and played football for two years in the NCAA III, scoring a total of 12 goals and 21 assists in 35 games. After leaving college, Clemons was intercepted by the American Football Academy PSC and given the chance to try out at various locations in Europe. A successful trial later led to a contract with the then Division 2 club Bodens BK 2018.

It feels very good to be here. When I was first contacted by Dalkurd I was surprised, but I appreciate the trust that the club and coach have shown me and I feel honored to be a part of Dalkurd, said Clemons in a first comment.

Clemons went on to say, “To be honest, I did know much about Dalkurd, I had seen them in the FIFA game. But after doing my research I was told that it is a nice club with a strong history and fantastic fans.”

Clemons is a versatile midfielder who can play at most midfield positions. He himself prefers to play more offensively, where with his speed, mobility and technique he can create disarray for most opponent defenses. Clemons, who scored six goals and four assists for Boden in Division 1 in 2019, says he is more than ready to start the season.

“I'm excited to get started with the season and the plan is crystal clear. Dalkurd is a club that belongs to Allsvenskan and that is what we want to achieve. It is a clear way of thinking that the coach emphasized to me from the beginning. The team contains a good collection of players and I am very happy to be part of this group,” concluded Clemons.
