Bermuda Defeat Azorean Select @ Sports Center

In front of a large crowd Bermuda edged the Sao Miguel Azorean Select team 2 – 1 with all three goals coming in the first half.

Bermuda: Jahquil Hill, Calon Minors, Reggie Lambe, Lejuan Simmons, Justin Donawa, Jonte Smith, Tre Ming, Osagi Bascome, William White, Chikosi Basden, Oliver Harvey - Substitutes: - Paul Douglas, Ernest Trott, Liam Evans, Daren usher, Cecoy Robinson, Jahkari Furbert, Quinaceo Hunt, Milan Butterfield, Donte Brangman, Jaylon Bather - Sao Miguel Azores: - Imerson, Luis Soares, Paulo Dinarte, Accioly, Paulo Henrique, Rafa Benevides, Joao Ventura, Pacheco, Clemente, Minhoca, Valtinha - Substitutes: - Luis Almeida, Emanuel, Manuel Camara, Ruizinho, Hugo Moniz, JP, Varao

Sao Miguel Azores decided to go with the wind that was blowing strong from North to South in the first half, the Bermuda defense at times struggled to get control of the ball with the visitors running hard at them.

William White was issued a yellow card early in the match pulling down a striker as he was heading toward goal, the free kick was blasted into the wall.

The visitors continued to pressure the Bermuda team, but the game changed in the 22nd minute when Bermuda won the ball in the midfield and a pass found Jonte Smith who threaded a pass to Justin Donawa who calmly stroked the ball into the back of the net.

Four minutes later it was 2 – 0, Smith worked hard taking on three defenders before unleashing a left footed shot the found the back of the net pass an outstretched left hand of Imerson in goal.

Sao Miguel Azores was able to pull a goal back when they was awarded a penalty in the 30th minute, two players clashed in the box and after a discussion with the referee assistant a penalty was awarded. Joao Ventura would convert from the spot to make it 2 – 1.

Hill kept the score at 2 – 1 when he dove to his left to deny a shot from Ventura. Ruizinho would then pick up a yellow card after he tackled Osagi Bascome.

To start the second half Bermuda brought in Quinaceo Hunt replacing Jahquil Hill in goal, also entering the game was Calon Minors and Milan Butterfield replacing Killian Elkinson and Tre Ming.

Donawa had a blast from an angle just miss the target as it was Bermuda’s turn to use the windy conditions.

Both teams made changes in the second half as the tempo of the match began to get very physical with neither team willing to backing down.

In the end the referee blew the final whistle as Bermuda claimed the 2 – 1 win.
