Total Confusion as Cricket Announce a Season Start Date

IslandStats.com
The Cricket Committee of the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to advise the general public that the start of the domestic league has been delayed until Saturday, June 26th.

We also wish to advise that, Twenty20 will be the only format for all BCB League games this year. The continued impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, availability of players, and economic return per match and field availability, will see the 2021 season, mirror that of our successful Return to Play in 2020.

The 2021 league season will consist of two complete rounds, which will include promotion and relegation (2 up and 2 down).

We look forward to seeing all fans of cricket & sport, as of June 26th and hope that we can return to our traditional scheduling in 2022 (50 overs & T20).

However, an email was sent to the clubs yesterday on behalf of the BCB Cricket Committee stating:- “Last week the clubs submitted their response to the BCB survey and voted 7 to 6 in favor of a 50 over competition.

We recognize the wishes of the 7 clubs, but after further review, the Committee has made the difficult decision to have only T20 games this year. The Covid-19 pandemic, availability of players and economic return per match, and field availability impacted our final decision.

The 2021 league season will have two complete rounds of matches which include's promotion and regulation.

We look forward to returning to our traditional scheduling in 2022 and wish you much success.

Meanwhile, a total of 11 players have transferred this season, Southampton Rangers have lost the services of Allan Douglas III and Tre Manders, with Douglas III heading to the St. George’s Cricket Club, while Manders headed back to Western Stars.

Southampton Rangers did pick of the services of Randy Bean and Tai Cariah both from the Somerset Cricket Club, and Dean Stephens has departed Cleveland County and gone to Willow Cuts.
