The Eastern Counties Cricket Association wishes to inform the public, that the 116th Eastern County Cup Series has been cancelled for this year. The annual event was scheduled to be held at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club – Sea Breeze Oval on July 18th, August 15th, and August 29th.
ECCA President Steven Douglas said, "The Eastern Counties Cricket Association regrettably announces that the 116th Eastern County Cup Series has been cancelled due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. After much deliberation, the Association has decided that it is in the best interest of Bermuda to suspend our competition scheduled for 2020 and to immediately commence with preparations for 2021.
The Association acknowledges the disappointment of our loyal patrons, fans and community. However, we recognize our duty to ensure the safety and health of all spectators. We acknowledge the sacrifices all Bermudians have made during this pandemic and ask that you continue to practice social distancing, along with the recommended safety and health protocols outlined by the government.
The Government of Bermuda, Bermuda Health Council and other health care agencies have done a fantastic job in limiting the spread of the virus. The ECCA, taking a leadership role in our communities; has decided to place the lives and welfare of all Bermudians above holding the competition this year We hereby announce that the 2021 series will be held at the Baileys Bay Cricket Club – Sea Breeze Oval and wish to thank the ECCA member clubs and fans for their understanding and support during the Covid-19 pandemic."
