A squad of 15 players has been announced to represent the Americas Region in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional 50 over first-class competition.
The squad includes Bermuda’s Kamau Leverock, while all-rounder Delray Rawlins was unfortunately unavailable for selection due to his duties with English County, Sussex and England Under 19’s.
This fantastic opportunity, granted by the WICB, will be the second year that an ICC Americas team has been included in the senior event.
The Americas team will be hosted in Barbados for its preliminary round matches and takes on CCC Marooners in its first fixture of the event on January 26th. The other teams in the Americas group are Barbados Pride, Guyana Jaguars and Jamaica Scorpions.
The squad includes a number of returning players from the group that represented the region earlier this year and also includes some debutants following strong performances at a number of recent events including the K. A. Auty Cup, World Cricket League Division 4 and the Canada v Bermuda series in Bermuda.
The group will be led by Nitish Kumar (Captain) and Steven Taylor (Vice Captain) whom are both exciting young leaders for their respective countries.
Leverock on his selection said, “I think it's good for Bermuda cricket. If I can get a good run and show the ICC that they need to even their focus it would be great.”
“It's always a pleasure to play in the place I have family. It's pretty much a second home and I enjoy playing on fast bouncy tracks,” concluded Leverock on playing in the West Indies.
