The Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) have announced that 3 members of the Under 13 National Team have been selected to compete in Barbados for an All Star Team in December. The three players traveling to Barbados are Cejay Outerbridge, Delray Rawlins and Charles Marshall III.
The trio has been selected to team up with other players from Anguilla, St. Kitts, Antigua/Barbuda, Dominica and Nevis to compete against Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and a guest team in a series of matches.
The tour will take place from December 8-20. Traveling with the boys will be BCB Executive representative and Under 13 Director Calvin Waldron.
Waldron stated, "This will be a great opportunity for these boys to further develop in life through cricket. They will receive extensive training as well as playing competitive matches to assess their progress. This will also enhance their lives through the cultural experience and give them a chance to interact amongst some of the Caribbean's top junior cricket players."
BCB president Reginald Pearman said, "I am proud that Bermuda will be represented in this tournament by three outstanding young cricketers. I wish Outerbridge, Rawlins and Marshall III the best of luck on their trip to Barbados."
Meanwhile the BCB extends its condolences to the family of David Shepherd, who passed away at the age of 68 after losing his battle to cancer. Mr. Shepherd umpired 92 test matches and after he retired in 2005 was invited to Bermuda to umpire in the Annual Cup Match Classic in 2006 at Somerset Cricket Club.
Somerset Cricket Club President, Richard Scott said, "We pay tribute to a man who has been known as a great umpire in the world. His visit to Bermuda to officiate in the Annual Cup Match Classic in 2006 along with his dear and close friend Mervyn Kitchen and their wives, will be something that we all remember and cherish, particularly when we know he officiated in 172 ODI's, 3 World Cups and 92 Tests, therefore to have him add little Bermuda to his umpiring list, after he had retired, was an honour."
"On behalf of the officers, members and players of Somerset Cricket Club and St. George's Cricket Club, we extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Shepherd and extended family of the passing of Mr. Shepherd and as he used to say to his partner when they walked to the middle, 'Good luck mate and may your God go with you' we say 'thank you Mr. Shepherd and may you rest in peace'."
Pearman, President of the BCB said, "The BCB sends our condolences to David Shepherd's family. He was an excellent umpire and a great ambassador for the sport of cricket. He was one of the games characters and carried out his umpiring duties with integrity and class."
