Bermudian Prospect Mendes Secures High-Profile Move
|
Bermudian midfielder Enriqué Mendes has secured a major breakthrough in his North American collegiate career, sealing a high-profile transfer to NCAA Division I program Chicago State University.
The moving package will see the 19-year-old link up with the Cougars this August for his sophomore year, taking a significant step up into the elite tier of US university soccer following an irresistible freshman campaign.
Mendes’ relocation to Illinois rewards a stellar individual year in the collegiate ranks, where his exceptional tactical maturity on the pitch was mirrored by flawless execution in the classroom.
Mendes spent his debut university season spearheading the midfield engine room at Husson University in Maine. The young islander quickly established himself as an indispensable asset for the Eagles, dictating the tempo of matches and showing physical durability that defied his lack of collegiate experience.
By the conclusion of the autumn schedule, Mendes led the entire Husson roster in both total assists and minutes played, acting as the primary creative spark for his team. His consistent high-level performances did not go unnoticed by regional selectors, who duly awarded the Bermudian prospect a prestigious spot on the All-Conference team.
What sets the young midfielder apart is his adherence to the true student-athlete model. While anchoring a demanding collegiate soccer program, Mendes maintained an elite 3.7 Grade Point Average (GPA), a metric that made him a highly coveted target in the transfer portal for top-tier academic institutions.
The move to Chicago State will expose Mendes to a significantly higher caliber of opposition, pitting his creative passing range against some of the most athletic and structurally disciplined programs in the United States.
With pre-season camp scheduled to open in August, the Bermudian international pathway product will look to seamlessly translate his clinical playmaking abilities to the Division I stage, continuing a fine tradition of local talent making an indelible mark on the American university circuit.

Clinical Robin Hood Cruise Past Dandy Town Hornets
|
Dandy Town Hornets 1 Robin Hood 4
Robin Hood put on a dominant display of attacking football to dismantle the Dandy Town Hornets 4-1 in the lone Bermuda Football Association Under-23 Division fixture of the weekend.
The match quickly turned into a procession as a clinical Hood side showcased their superior transition play, exposing defensive frailties in the Hornets' backline to comfortably secure all three points.
The tone was set in the 13th minute when Ayden Gardner found space inside the box, picking his spot to rifle home the opener and give Robin Hood a deserved lead. Dandy Town struggled to find their passing rhythm in response, consistently turning over possession in the midfield under relentless high pressing.
The pressure told again just five minutes before the interval. Tajai Goater capitalized on a lapse in the Hornets' central defense, ghosting in to double the advantage in the 40th minute and hand his side a commanding cushion going into the break.
Any hopes of a second-half Dandy Town resurgence were thoroughly extinguished in the 69th minute. Mayan Grant turned provider-turned-scorer, finishing a fluid team move to make it 3-0.
Robin Hood's relentless forward line refused to take their foot off the gas, and Jhazii Johnson put the result completely beyond doubt in the 81st minute, carving through a tired Hornets line to smash home a fourth.
To their credit, the Hornets refused to yield completely. Just two minutes after conceding the fourth, Cram Burgess managed to find a consolation breakthrough for Dandy Town in the 83rd minute, spoiling the clean sheet.
However, it was far too little, too late, as Robin Hood comfortably managed the remaining minutes of play to see out an emphatic victory.

Historic MLS NEXT Cup Run Ends in Penalty Shootout Heartbreak
|
Darlington School Soccer Academy’s historic debut campaign in the MLS NEXT Cup came to a heartbreaking conclusion in Salt Lake City as their Under-17 side was eliminated on penalties by Northern Virginia's The Saint James Academy at the quarter-final stage.
Despite the cruel nature of their exit, the tournament marked a watershed moment for Darlington’s ambitious new soccer program, which firmly established itself among the elite youth academies of North America during its inaugural national cycle.
Darlington arrived in Utah as the tournament's form team, having taken the competition by storm in the opening rounds.
They opened their campaign with a clinical 4-0 shutout victory over Virginia Revolution SC, showcasing a fluid attacking style that tore their opponents apart. They followed that up with a display of immense character and resilience, grinding out a hard-fought 3-1 victory over a dangerous Monarchs Arizona side.
The two results gave Darlington the most potent statistical record in the tournament heading into the last eight. Grant Reese and his teammates boasted a tournament-best goal differential of plus six, having breached opposition defenses seven times while conceding just a single goal before the quarter-finals.
Darlington's sensational run in Salt Lake City was the culmination of a breakout year for the academy.
The U17 squad had already turned heads across the United States by capturing the Southern Division title in the fall of 2025. They concluded that domestic campaign with the highest goal differential in the entire MLS NEXT Academy Division.
That dominant league performance earned them automatic qualification to the premier championship event in Utah, bypassing the grueling spring qualification tournaments altogether.
The quarter-final clash against a highly touted Saint James Academy side proved to be a tactical, high-intensity affair, with neither side willing to give an inch under the Salt Lake City heat.
After a tense period of extra time failed to separate the two teams, the match was pushed to the lottery of kicks from the penalty mark. It was there that the Northern Virginia side found their clinical edge, conversion by conversion, to seal their place in the semi-finals.
While the shootout defeat ended dreams of a national title, Darlington’s maiden voyage into the upper echelons of North American youth soccer has laid down a serious marker for the seasons ahead.

Versatile talent Peets seals switch to Brevard College
|
Bermdian student-athlete Aidan Peets has officially committed to Brevard College ahead of the Fall 2026 season, marking the next major milestone in his collegiate football career.
The versatile 19-year-old will head to North Carolina to join the NCAA Division III programme as an incoming junior, arriving with valuable collegiate experience already under his belt after a competitive stint at NAIA outfit William Penn University.
Standing at 5ft 6in, Peets has built a reputation as a highly adaptable and energetic modern player. He is equally comfortable operating as a tenacious right-back or pulling the strings in central midfield—a tactical versatility that will offer the Tornados significant options across the pitch.
His work rate on the turf is matched by his diligence in the lecture hall. Peets, who is pursuing a degree in Exercise Science and Sports Management, will make the transition to Brevard boasting an impressive 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Having shown his goalscoring touch on the domestic front just last night—striking for Robin Hood in an emphatic Under-23 league victory at Bernard Park—Peets appears primed to take his sharp form into the American collegiate system this autumn.
The move offers the young Bermudian an ideal platform to continue his development both academically and athletically, as he prepares to make his mark in the highly competitive USA South Athletic Conference.

Hood run riot in ten-goal thriller to dismantle Rams
|
Robin Hood 7 North Village Rams 3
Robin Hood produced an attacking masterclass at Bernard Park, hitting seven goals past a shell-shocked North Village Rams in a breathless Bermuda Football Association Under-23 Division encounter.
The match was effectively decided during a blistering first-half display from Robin Hood, who caught their opponents cold to race into a four-goal lead before the referee blew for the interval.
It took just three minutes for Nayan Grant to open the scoring, capitalizing on slack defending to put Robin Hood ahead. The Rams barely had time to recover before Ayden Gardner doubled the advantage three minutes later with a clinical finish.
Gardner was in irresistible form and struck again in the 13th minute to put Robin Hood three goals up, leaving the North Village coaching staff searching for answers. The first-half misery was compounded for the Rams just before the break when Aiden Peets found the net in the 42nd minute to cap off a completely dominant opening period.
The second half brought more of the same as Robin Hood refused to take their foot off the gas. Amari Smith extended the lead to five in the 58th minute as the Rams continued to struggle with the pace of the Hood attack.
North Village did manage to salvage some pride in the 71st minute when Denhem Minors pulled a goal back, but any hopes of a miraculous comeback were instantly snuffed out four years later when Zhani Burgess restored the five-goal cushion for Robin Hood.
A chaotic final ten minutes saw both teams trade goals in a frantic finish to the contest. Jakeem Jennings scored a second for North Village in the 81st minute, and the Rams added a third in stoppage time when Z'dao Dill calmly converted a penalty.
However, Robin Hood had the final say of the afternoon. Straight from the restart, Cody Robinson struck deep into injury time to seal a comprehensive victory and ensure his side walked away with all three points from a memorable ten-goal spectacle.
