Jiménez & Hibs Fight Back to Deny Rangers Top Spot
|
Hibernian Academy earned a gritty point on the road as they came from behind to secure a 2–2 draw against Rangers in a pulsating CAS Elite Under-19 League encounter in Glasgow.
In a match that pitted two of the country's most clinical youth setups against one another, the spoils were shared in a result that leaves the hosts frustrated in their pursuit of pulling clear at the summit of the table.
Rangers started with the intent of a side looking to cement their status at the top of the league. Their early dominance was rewarded through clinical finishes from Conor Owen and Kyle Glasgow, who appeared to have set the Glasgow outfit on a trajectory for all three points.
The hosts twice took the lead at the Rangers Training Centre, but goals from Jamie McMurdo and Logan Jimenez secured Darren McGregor’s side a well-earned point to take back to the capital.
Hibs, featuring a disciplined Jiménez, found themselves under significant pressure in the first half but managed to keep the deficit within reach before the interval.
The second half told a different story. Refusing to yield, Hibs emerged with a more aggressive press, eventually finding the goals needed to cancel out the Rangers' lead. The comeback was a testament to the resilience of the Edinburgh side's academy, as they exploited gaps in the Rangers backline to level the scoring.
Despite a frantic closing period where both sides pushed for a winner, the defenses held firm.

Evans strike denies Brunson’s & Cooper’s QPR Victory
|
Queens Park Rangers Development Squad were left to rue missed opportunities as a late Makise Evans equalizer secured a 1-1 draw for Colchester United at Florence Park. Despite an early strike from Jaylan Pearman, the R’s were unable to secure all three points in their latest Professional Development League encounter.
Bermudian winger Kalen Brunson—who famously became QPR's second-youngest senior debutant in August 2025—was a key figure in the Rangers attack, featuring as part of a development group overseen by compatriot and goalkeeper coach Dashun Cooper.
The visitors made the perfect start after just eight minutes when Jaylan Pearman capitalized on an assist from Kaleb Dyke to beat U's keeper Harrison Chamberlain. Pearman nearly doubled the advantage early in the second half but saw his effort sail just over the bar, while substitute Rohan Vaughan also went close with a header 13 minutes from time.
Colchester’s persistence finally paid off in the 81st minute when Makise Evans converted from close range following a cross from the left. QPR goalkeeper Charlie Warren was required to make several vital saves, including a superb tip-over from a late Ronnie Harvey free-kick, to ensure the spoils were shared.
The result leaves QPR in 8th place in the South division standings as they prepare for another away fixture against Watford this Tuesday.

Weather Wipes out School All-Star Saturday
|
The Bermuda School Sports Federation (BSSF) has been forced to postpone the highly anticipated Primary and Middle School Football All-Star matches scheduled for Saturday, January 31st.
The fixtures, which were set to take place at the National Sports Centre North Field, have been called off due to a forecast of challenging weather conditions.
Current forecasts for Saturday in Bermuda predict heavy rain during the day, with temperatures reaching a high of 22°C and winds gusting from the southeast at 29 mph. The risk of inclement weather, which includes an 85% chance of rain by Saturday night, has led officials to prioritize the safety of the young student-athletes.
Historically, the BSSF has taken a cautious approach to "Mother Nature," often rescheduling these popular showcase matches to avoid conflicting with BFA youth leagues or risking player injury on saturated surfaces. Last year’s edition similarly saw delays due to rainfall, highlighting the difficulties of the mid-winter sporting calendar.
While a new date for the primary and middle school showpieces has yet to be finalized, the BSSF is expected to announce the revised schedule early next week. In the meantime, the Senior School Cross Country remains on the calendar for Tuesday, February 3rd, followed by the middle and primary school events later that week.

Bermuda Under 17 Women Qualifying Numbers
|
Bermuda’s Under-17 Women’s National team concluded their Group B qualifying campaign with a series of commanding performances that solidified their reputation as one of the region's rising powers. Despite finishing as runners-up to Panama on goal difference, Bermuda displayed a level of technical proficiency and offensive firepower that suggests a bright future for this young squad.
While they wait to see if they are one of the best second place finishers www.islandstats.com takes a look at the team and individual stats.
The statistics from their three-match run tell a story of dominance and efficiency. Bermuda recorded an impressive 36% goal conversion rate, finding the net 16 times from just 50 total shots. This clinical nature was underpinned by a sophisticated possession-based game, with the team completing 817 passes over the course of the tournament.
At the heart of this creative engine was Zelaye Showers, who acted as the primary distributor with a team-high 145 successful passes. Her ability to dictate the tempo from midfield allowed Bermuda's attacking duo to thrive. Milan Gibbons-Thomas emerged as one of the tournament's standout finishers, leading the Bermuda scoring charts with six goals, including a spectacular four-goal haul in the opening match against Suriname. She was expertly supported by Daley Outerbridge, who contributed four goals of her own, highlighted by a clinical hat-trick against Bonaire.
While the attack flourished, the defensive unit proved equally resilient under pressure. Goalkeeper Kyra Simmons was a pillar of strength between the posts, recording 15 crucial saves to keep Bermuda competitive in the high-stakes final showdown against Panama. The team's physical commitment was evident in the 28 fouls conceded, though this aggression occasionally boiled over, with Daley Outerbridge and Riley Khan each picking up two yellow cards during the campaign.
Bermuda now waits to see if their unbeaten record and significant goal difference will be enough to secure one of the two coveted best runner-up spots for the final round. Regardless of the final outcome, this campaign has set a new benchmark for youth development on the island.
