Netball Action Braces the Elements Yet Again

Despite inclement weather threatening to dampen spirits, the Bermuda Netball Association's young stars braved the elements at Bernard's Park, delivering a display of skill and determination.

Unfortunately, the unpredictable weather forced the cancellation of several matches, but the 11 & Under and two 14 & Under division games provided a thrilling spectacle for those in attendance.

11 & Under Division

Phoenix Sparks: A'Mariss Dyer was recognized as the Best Attacker, Quin Burgess was the Best Defender, and K'ah Seymour was the team's MVP.

Storm Lightning: Tess Martin secured the Best Attacker accolade, with Honor White was the Best Defender, and Asia Burt was named the team's MVP.

North Village Lady Rams: Sanaa Hodsoll earned recognition as the Best Attacker, while Violet Leverock was named Best Defender, and Davi Wade was the MVP.

Storm Thunder: Kimora Davy received the Best Attacker award, Shavion Channer was named Best Defender, and Sophia Oduri earned the MVP accolade.

14 & Under Division

In the opening 14 & Under clash, the Phoenix Embers ignited the court with a fiery performance, scorching the North Village Lady Rams 20-6.

Shiloh Simmons, named Best Attacker, led the Embers' charge with an impressive 10 goals, while Zyari Lawrence added four goals to the tally. Azariah Scott and Jaylen Lewis contributed three goals each, showcasing the team's offensive depth.

Kim-Mora Mallory stood tall as the Embers' Best Defender, while Kenzie McCreary earned MVP honors for her all-around excellence.

The North Village Lady Rams, despite the loss, showed glimpses of brilliance. S'Mai Tyrrell led their scoring efforts with 4 goals, while Olivia Dale and Dani Brown each contributed a goal.

Xen Bourne was recognized as the team's Best Attacker, Riley Jones earned Best Defender accolades, and Dylan Outerbridge was named MVP for her resilience and determination.

In the other 14 & Under match, the Storm unleashed a torrent of goals, overwhelming the Dandy Stars 35-1. Sah-Quirity Warner and Eliana Trott spearheaded the Storm's attack, each netting an impressive 9 goals.

Journee Belboda and Hailey Oduori added 5 goals apiece, while Vongai Benza contributed 4 goals. Nala Richardson chipped in with 3 goals, and SaVana Hayward rounded off the scoring with a single goal.

Despite the weather challenges, the young netballers showcased their talent and passion for the game, leaving spectators eager for the next round of action.

Berkeley Institute Claims BSSF Netball Crown

The Berkeley Institute emerged victorious in a gripping showdown against CedarBridge Academy to capture the Bermuda School Sports Federation's Senior School Over-16 Netball Tournament title.

The final, held at Bernard's Park, was a display of skill, athleticism, and determination, with Berkeley ultimately prevailing 20-10.

Makaylie Smith was the driving force behind Berkeley's triumph, netting an impressive 14 goals. Sioma Rudo provided crucial support with four goals, while Ra'eesah Robinson added two to solidify the win. CedarBridge's Jamir Hatherley battled valiantly, leading her team with six goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome Berkeley's offensive firepower.

The match was a tense affair, with both teams showcasing their defensive prowess. Berkeley's relentless attack and accurate shooting proved to be the difference-maker, allowing them to build a comfortable lead and secure the championship.

Warwick Academy and Saltus Red Battle to a Draw in Third-Place Match

In the battle for third place, Warwick Academy and Saltus Red fought tooth and nail, ultimately ending in a 7-7 deadlock. The match highlighted the depth of talent in the tournament, with both teams showcasing their competitive spirit.

Road to the Final

CedarBridge Academy earned their spot in the final by overcoming Warwick Academy 19-3 in a dominant semi-final performance. The champions, Berkeley Institute, displayed their championship mettle with a convincing 14-4 victory over Saltus Red in the other semi-final.

The tournament also saw exciting early-round action, with Saltus Red narrowly edging out Somersfield Academy 8-7 and Warwick Academy securing a 10-3 win over Saltus White.

Somersfield Academy emerged victorious from a thrilling battle on the Netball Court, claiming the title in the first-ever Bermuda School Sports Federation Under 16 Netball Tournament. The Bernard's Park was buzzing with excitement as Somersfield showcased their skills and determination, finishing the round-robin tournament with an impressive 10 points.

Somersfield dominated the competition, winning three of their four matches with their only blemish being a hard-fought 12-12 draw against rivals Bermuda High School (BHS). BHS finished as runners-up with 8 points, while the Berkeley Institute secured a respectable third place with 7 points.

This inaugural tournament showcased the incredible talent and passion for netball among Bermuda's young athletes. Somersfield's victory marks a significant milestone for the school and sets the stage for future generations of Netball stars.

BNA Senior League Round-Up

After what some have called an intentional media blackout last week due to a certain team not playing, this week Netball will roar back into the spotlight with a vengeance, as the Tigers delivered a 59-8 drubbing of the Dockies in the Bermuda Netball Association Senior League. The Bernard's Park court witnessed a scoring spectacle as the Tigers showcased their attacking prowess.

Leading the charge for the Tigers were the dynamic duo of JahKenya Trott and her twin sister JahTuere Trott. The talented siblings were unstoppable, each netting an impressive 24 goals. Nahjae Raynor added to the offensive onslaught with 11 goals of her own. Khianda Pearman-Watson was a rock in defense, earning the Best Defender accolade, while Sideya Dill orchestrated the attack with precision, earning MVP honors.

Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Dockies showed flashes of brilliance. Olivia Bugg led her team's scoring efforts with 5 goals, while Best Attacker Meghan Sherwin added 3 goals. Jana Phillips was a standout defender, and Ruth-Ellen Pintilie was named MVP for her tireless efforts.

Inclement Weather Impacts Bermuda Netball Schedule

Due to inclement weather, the Bermuda Netball Association's schedule was significantly impacted, with only the 11 & Under Division and one match in the 14 & Under Division taking place.

11 & Under Division

Storm Lightning: Honor White secured the Best Attacker accolade, with Tamirra Richardson was the Best Defender, and Mo’Lai Bean-Burch was named the team's MVP.

Storm Thunder: Pashshun Martin received the Best Attacker award, Gabriella Babon was named Best Defender, and Kimora Davy earned the MVP accolade.

Phoenix Sparks: Brayden Morrison was recognized as the Best Attacker, Solae Riveas was the Best Defender, and Quin Burgess was the team's MVP.

Dandy Stars: Arianna Parra earned recognition as the Best Attacker, while Naiah Rayner was named Best Defender, and A'Nylah Tucker was the MVP.

14 & Under Division

In the sole 14 & Under Division match, Storm secured a convincing 17 - 2 victory over the North Village Rams.

Hailey Oduori and Sa-Qurity Warner, named Best Attacker, led the scoring for Storm with 8 goals each. Tatum Darrell contributed the remaining goal. Annabel Olutiola was recognized as Best Defender, and Amirah Trott was named Most Valuable Player for Storm.

Dani Brown scored both goals for the North Village Rams. Keiazha Smith was named Best Attacker, Starr Smith was awarded Best Defender, and Riley Jones received MVP honors for the North Village Rams.
