Bermuda Set for Historic Netball Debut at 2026 CAC Games
IslandStats.com
Netball Bermuda has officially confirmed its participation in the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, marking a historic return to major multi-sport competition for the national program. The Games are scheduled to take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from July 24th to August 8th, 2026, with the netball competition tentatively slated for the final week of action between August 3rd and 7th.
Bermuda's inclusion in the regional showpiece follows a dramatic shift in the qualification standings. While participation is typically reserved for the host nation and the top five ranked countries in the Americas region, a vacancy opened after St. Vincent and the Grenadines withdrew their participation. This withdrawal allowed Bermuda, as the next eligible nation, to secure a coveted spot in the six-team tournament.
The qualification is a direct result of Bermuda’s rapid ascent in the World Netball rankings over the past year. After a multi-year absence from international competition, the "Longtails" made a sensational return during the Battle of the Isles tournament held in St. Maarten and St. Eustatius last October.
The national squad secured a silver medal at the event, recording dominant wins over Guadeloupe (83-6), the British Virgin Islands (47-17), and the host nation, with their only defeats coming against regional powerhouse Canada. This stellar run propelled Bermuda into the updated World Netball rankings in 20th position overall.
Crucially, the new global standing has placed Bermuda among the elite in the Americas. The island now sits as the fifth-ranked nation in the region, trailing only traditional heavyweights Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and the recently withdrawn St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
For Netball Bermuda President Kimale Evans and captain Debré Evans, the achievement represents a strategic milestone that validates years of "intentional" development behind the scenes. The upcoming trip to Santo Domingo will serve as a vital high-performance platform as the team builds toward the 2026 Americas Netball World Cup Qualifiers later that year.

Northlands Primary Claim Historic Third Straight Netball Crown

Northlands Primary have further cemented their dominance in youth sport after securing their third consecutive Primary School Netball Tournament title following a pulsating 4-3 victory over West Pembroke Primary at Bernard Park.
In a final defined by defensive grit and high-pressure shooting, it was Jher’z Burgess who emerged as the hero for the champions, leading from the front with a vital haul of goals to push her side over the line.
The match remained on a knife-edge until the closing stages when Mila Bryan found the net to score the decisive fourth goal for Northlands. West Pembroke pushed the champions to the very limit as Ariah Tucker netted twice and A’Nylah Tucker added another, but they ultimately fell just one goal short of forcing the match into extra time.
Northlands reached the showpiece event after a convincing 6-3 victory over Somersfield Academy in the semi-finals. Burgess was once again the standout performer in that clash, netting five times to lead all scorers, while Bryan added a single goal to complete the scoring. The other semi-final was a much more grueling affair as West Pembroke needed extra time to eventually see off Harrington Sound Primary 10-8. Ariah Tucker was in sensational form during that encounter, scoring eight goals to single-handedly drag her team into the final, supported by two goals from A’Nylah Tucker. Harrington Sound’s resistance was led by Aalyasia Watson and Mia White, who each scored four times in what was the highest-scoring match of the day.
The knockout stages began with Harrington Sound delivering a statement performance by defeating Purvis Primary 9-4 in the first quarter-final. West Pembroke then survived a scare to edge out BHS 6-4, while Somersfield Academy secured their progress with a hard-fought 7-5 win over Saltus Grammar. The eventual champions, Northlands, wrapped up the quarter-final round in dominant fashion with a ruthless 7-0 shutout win over Warwick Academy to signal their intent early in the day.

In the non-competitive 10 & Under Division, the focus remained on skill building and sportsmanship. While scores were not officially tallied, several players were celebrated for their individual efforts:
Dandy Stars vs North Village Lady Rams: Caie Rogers was named MVP for the Stars, while Lola Wilson took the honours for NVCC. Storm vs Phoenix Sparks: Sarena Frederick was the standout MVP for Storm, as Iyla Bascome earned the same recognition for the Sparks.

Grassroots Energy as Netball Prepares for Memorial Showpiece
IslandStats.com
The Bernard Park netball courts were a hive of activity as the next generation of Bermudian talent took to the courts for a series of skills and drills sessions. Primary school students from across the island gathered to sharpen their fundamentals, focusing on the core pillars of the game including precision passing, agile footwork, and clinical shooting.
This surge of grassroots energy serves as the perfect curtain-raiser for a high-stakes weekend of competitive action. Netball Bermuda has officially released the schedule for two of the most anticipated events on the local calendar: the Juniors Merle Parfitt Hustle Tournament and the Seniors Sylvia Eastley Memorial Tournament, both set to take place this Saturday, January 10th.
The Merle Parfitt Hustle Tournament will showcase the island’s rising stars across three age brackets. Teams in the 10 and under, 13 and under, and 16 and under divisions will compete in a fast-paced round-robin format. To maintain the high intensity that the Hustle brand is known for, matches will consist of five-minute halves, demanding immediate impact and tactical discipline from the opening whistle.
Following the youth festivities, the focus will shift to the veteran ranks for the Sylvia Eastley Memorial Tournament. This senior competition also follows a round-robin structure but allows for a slightly longer tactical battle with matches contested over seven-minute halves. The tournament remains a poignant fixture in the season, honouring the legacy of a titan of the sport while providing a platform for the island’s elite senior clubs to test their mid-season form.
The Bermuda Netball League delivered a thrilling round of senior action at Bernard Park, highlighted by high-scoring displays and standout individual performances across the divisions.
