Raynor and Williams Take Center Stage in Summer Netball
|
A sensational twenty-seven goal haul from Danielle Raynor and a dominant thirty-four point display by Antoine Williams took top billing as the Summer Netball League delivered an evening of high-octane drama. Under the floodlights, the island's sharpest shooters and clinical defenders produced a stellar night of action spanning both the Women’s and Coed Divisions.
The opening encounter produced an absolute classic as PHC Lady Zebras narrowly outlasted Netball Bermuda Under-21 Academy by twenty-two goals to twenty-one. PHC were indebted to a masterful shooting performance from Nisaiah Berkeley, who bagged fourteen goals, while Sonja Townsend chipped in with eight. The youth academy pushed them all the way, fueled by Mayah Williams-Johnson's twelve-goal effort. Jordyn Ming scooped the most valuable player and best attacker honors for the victorious Lady Zebras, while Debre Evans took the defender award. For the youth academy, Naomi Crofton was named most valuable player, Williams-Johnson best attacker, and Nyli Grant top defender.
In the later broadcast slot, Phoenix Blaze turned on the style to comfortably overpower Tropical Storm thirty-three goals to fourteen. The headline was written by Phoenix talisman Danielle Raynor, who put on a shooting clinic to claim the most valuable player award with a staggering twenty-seven goals. Jaya Dillas scored five and was named top attacker, while Kiante Lightbourne anchored the defense. The Storm fought gamely with Williams-Johnson netting six, but they had no answer for Raynor’s unstoppable prowess. Honor White claimed the most valuable player nod for the Storm, with Gabriella Babon named top attacker and T'jaia Butler selected as best defender.
In the Coed Division, Allshores romped to a convincing thirty-four to seventeen victory over RenRe. The damage was largely done by the clinical Sheldon Bahadosingh, who racked up twenty-three goals to break the RenRe resistance. Despite Coriah Simmons netting ten points in response for RenRe to earn top attacker honors, Allshores controlled the court. Synsir’s Lowe-Lowe was inspired at the heart of everything to claim the most valuable player trophy, supported by top attacker Keedai Astwood and best defender Kenszo Iris. Cruz Cedenio was named most valuable player for RenRe, while Alice Cedenio took the defensive award.
Meanwhile, Storm Chasers unleashed the most ruthless team performance of the night, blowing past Baileys Bay thirty-nine goals to thirteen. Antoine Williams was simply unplayable for the Chasers, single-handedly outscoring the opposition with an astonishing thirty-four goal masterclass to take home the most valuable player honors. Josh Hardtman and Kauai Evans scooped the attacker and defender awards respectively. Alexia Pascall fought hard for Bay with seven goals, while Jordyn Morris claimed the team most valuable player award. Samario Paul was named best attacker for Bay, with Cashun Brangman recognized as top defender on a night where the Chasers' defensive grid truly locked down the court.
