Trott Stars While Bermudians Feature across English Football

IslandStats.com
Bermuda goalkeeper Nathan Trott pulled off crucial stoppage-time heroics as Cardiff City produced an astonishing fightback to edge Burnley 5-4 in a breathless Championship encounter at Cardiff City Stadium.

Having trailed 4-1, the Bluebirds mounted a stirring second-half resurgence to level the scores at 4-4 heading into a dramatic ten minutes of additional time.

Trott was immediately called upon to preserve parity, producing a brilliant diving save to deny the Clarets before commanding his area to claim the resulting corner.

Cardiff’s remarkable turnaround was complete moments later when Alex Robertson curled a sublime strike into the top right-hand corner from the edge of the box, handing the hosts an improbable lead with five minutes of injury time remaining.

Trott was required once more in the dying stages, producing another outstanding reaction stop three minutes from time to ensure Cardiff closed out an action-packed week with all three points.

In the Emirates FA Cup first round, Nahki Wells and Luton Town safely navigated their tie with a professional 2-0 victory over National League side Forest Green Rovers at Kenilworth Road.

Facing the Gloucestershire club at this stage for the second consecutive campaign, the Hatters avoided the drama of last season’s 4-3 thriller. While the non-league visitors showed enterprise going forward, Luton remained composed to secure their passage into round two with minimal fuss.

There was no such joy for Jutorre Burgess, who remained an unused substitute as Harborough Town’s FA Cup run came to an end following a 5-1 defeat away to League One outfit Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road.

National League North: Midfielder Keziah Martin helped Hereford secure a gritty 2-1 away victory over Chorley at Victory Park.

Southern League Premier Central: Milan Butterfield was on the wrong end of an eight-goal spectacle as Halesowen Town were beaten 5-3 by Anstey Nomads at The Grove. Elsewhere in the division, the suspended Willie Clemons looked on from the sidelines as Leiston slipped to a 3-2 defeat against Bromsgrove Sporting at the Victoria Ground.

Eastern Counties League: Veteran international Reggie Lambe delivered an inspiring performance to guide Ipswich Wanderers to a convincing 3-0 home win over Heacham at The Doucy.

Central Midlands Alliance: Jakeem Jennings and AFC Borrowash Victoria were in rampant form, cruising to a comprehensive 5-0 win against Ripley Town at the Asterdale Sports Ground.

Southern League Division One South: Bermudian head coach Daizhari Tucker endured a difficult afternoon in the dugout as his Worcester Raiders side fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Hungerford Town.
