Sir Vivian Richards' Caribbean Under-23 side claimed a comfortable 43-run victory over David Gower’s Wider Commonwealth outfit in the Commonwealth Future Stars 10-over clash in Antigua.
Playing at the stadium bearing their honorary manager’s name, the Caribbean XI posted an imposing 118-6 from their allotted 10 overs before stifling the Commonwealth chase to 75-8.
Despite the defeat, Isaiah O’Brien delivered a lively all-round performance for the Commonwealth side, taking 1-20 from his two overs and pouching two sharp catches in the field.
However, the Caribbean top order capitalised on rapid scoring conditions, finding the boundary with regularity to set an intimidating target of nearly 12 runs an over.
In response, Gower’s side struggled for fluency against disciplined Caribbean bowling.
Keegan Jones fell cheaply for two, while Sa-Qui Robinson managed just four as wickets tumbled at regular intervals.
O’Brien briefly counter-attacked with a brisk 11 before being dismissed, leaving Zeri Tomlinson to salvage late runs with an unbeaten 13.
The showcase fixture brought together emerging talent from across the Commonwealth, with West Indies batting icon Richards claiming bragging rights over his former international adversary Gower.
