A dramatic late strike from Caleb Furbert proved decisive as Warwick Academy edged out rivals Saltus Grammar School to lift the Primary School B Division Six-A-Side title at the National Sports Centre South Field.
In a tightly contested final defined by disciplined defending and sharp goalkeeping, opportunities were at a premium between the two heavyweights. With extra time looming and little separating the sides, Furbert broke the deadlock in the dying minutes, finding the net to spark jubilant celebrations on the Warwick touchline.
It was harsh on a well-drilled Saltus unit, who had matched Warwick stride for stride throughout an absorbing encounter, but Furbert’s composure under pressure ensured the trophy headed back to Morgan’s Road.
The cagey final stood in stark contrast to an afternoon of ruthless attacking football in the semi-finals, where both finalists breezed through with commanding victories.
Saltus punched their ticket to the showpiece with an emphatic 4-1 triumph over West Pembroke Primary. A well-rounded team display saw Rhodes Mello, Jamie Kent, Brooklyn Emery, and Joseph Vernon all etch their names onto the scoresheet. Micha Paul pulled one back for West Pembroke, but it proved mere consolation against a dominant Saltus attack.
Warwick Academy were even more clinical in their final-four clash, dismantling Francis Patton Primary 5-1. The eventual champions showcased their immense squad depth in front of goal, with Furbert opening his account for the day alongside strikes from Dustin Bernier, Jesse Hayes, Ernie Saunders, and Nico Simmons. Koa Bean provided the solitary reply for Francis Patton.
Ultimately, Warwick’s tournament will be remembered for Furbert’s decisive moment of quality when the stakes were at their highest.
