Bermuda High School showed nerves of steel from the penalty spot to capture the Bermuda School Sports Federation’s Middle School Girls Under-12 Six-a-Side tournament at the National Sports Centre.
BHS edged island rivals Saltus Grammar School 2-1 in a tense penalty shootout after an uncompromising, defense-dominated final ended goalless in regulation time.
The victory capped a remarkably composed afternoon for BHS, who relied on back-to-back spot-kick masterclasses to lift the trophy.
BHS took the hard road to the final, navigating an equally attritional semi-final against Warwick Academy. With neither side able to breach the opposition backline in a 0-0 stalemate, BHS held their nerve from the spot to punch their ticket to the showpiece.
Saltus, meanwhile, booked their place in the final through more conventional means. A disciplined semi-final clash against Somersfield Academy was settled midway through the second half, when Nia Maughan produced a clinical finish to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
However, Saltus found no way through a resolute BHS rearguard in the final, setting up the decisive shootout where BHS once again proved unflappable under pressure.
