Bermudian professional Daniel Augustus faces a test of character after an arduous opening round at the Clutch Pro Tour Tier 2 Championship left him down the leaderboard at Clandon Regis Golf Club in Surrey, England.
The Ocean View professional signed for an 11-over-par 83 over his opening 18 holes, leaving him in 70th position heading into the final stages of the 36-hole season finale.
Augustus struggled to generate forward momentum around the tricky parkland layout, finding difficulty off the tee and around the greens.
His card was hampered by eight bogeys and a pair of double bogeys, with a solitary birdie and seven pars doing little to offset the dropped shots as conditions tested the field.
The 39-year-old, who arrived in the United Kingdom buoyed by winning the Johnnie Walker Classic and securing qualification for the PGA Tour's Butterfield Bermuda Championship, has shown resilience from slow starts in recent weeks.
Augustus will look to replicate last week's second-round fightback in Hexham when he returns to the fairways on Thursday, aiming for a sharp turnaround over the closing 18 holes.
