Christopher Hits Four in Iceland as Smith's Rhode Island Surge

IslandStats.com
Bermuda international Nia Christopher stole the headlines with a sensational four-goal haul in Iceland, leading a busy weekend of overseas action for the island's professional and overseas footballers.

Christopher produced an individual masterclass for FH Hafnarfjordur, spearheading a ruthless 5-0 rout of IBV Vestmannaeyjar in the Icelandic Women's top flight.

The forward delivered a devastating opening salvo, finding the net in the fifth and seventh minutes to give her side a 2-0 cushion at the interval. She picked up right where she left off after the restart, adding a third in the 59th minute before capping a memorable afternoon by completing her four-goal tally in the 90th minute.

Across the Atlantic, Bermudian head coach Khano Smith guided Rhode Island FC to a massive 3-1 victory on the road against Brooklyn FC in the USL Championship.

Goals from Amos Shapiro-Thompson, Karifa Yao, and Nick Scardina sealed a second consecutive victory for Smith's side, lifting Rhode Island into fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings—just a single point adrift of a coveted top-four home play-off berth with four regular-season matches remaining.

In the National Women's Soccer League, Bermudian forward Mia Fishel and Seattle Reign FC were on the wrong end of a narrow 1-0 defeat to North Carolina Courage at Lumen Field, with Giana Paul striking the decisive second-half goal to take the points for the visitors.

In Italy, midfielder Leilanni Nesbeth and Como Women endured a tough outing on Matchday 2 of the Serie A Women Athora, falling 2-0 to Inter at the Mino Favini Stadium in Meda. After a goalless first half, Inter broke the deadlock via a Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir penalty before Haley Bugeja struck seven minutes from time to put the result beyond doubt.

In the English Women's FA Cup, there was heartbreak for several Bermudians across the third qualifying round.

Eva Frazzoni and AFC Sudbury Women bowed out after a tight 2-1 defeat away to Luton Town Ladies at the Great Barton Rovers FC Ground.

At the Steel City Stadium, Aaliyah Nolan and Trinae Edwards were also edged out by the same 2-1 scoreline as Barnsley Women were eliminated by Mancunian Unity.

Meanwhile, Jasmine Spence enjoyed a commanding afternoon in the East Midlands Regional Women's League Premier Division, featuring prominently as Newport Pagnell Town Women cruised to a comprehensive 5-0 triumph against Gainsborough Trinity Women.
