Bermudian youth international Jace Donawa and the University of North Carolina men’s soccer team produced a clinical display to secure a 2-0 victory over West Florida on Dorrance Field at Play2Dream Legacy Stadium.
The result moves the Tar Heels to 4-2-3 overall, while the Argonauts slip to 2-6-1 in their debut campaign at the NCAA Division I level.
West Florida started brightly, but Carolina soon seized territorial control and broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute through a milestone moment. Joschi Schelb pounced on a loose ball, drove aggressively into the penalty area, and squared across the face of goal for Faraji Ramani to poke home his first collegiate strike.
Schelb then capped an influential individual performance by doubling the advantage in the 59th minute, calmly dispatching his seventh goal of the season and his fourth in as many matches.
The Tar Heels controlled proceedings from back to front, restricting West Florida’s attacking outlets and dominating the statistics. UNC closed the evening with 17 attempts to West Florida’s seven, a 7-2 advantage in shots on target, and a commanding 10-0 margin in corner kicks.
