The Bermuda Football Association youth season kicked off in dramatic fashion as the Under 13 Gregory Grimes Tournament served up high drama, penalty shootouts and a remarkable 21-goal display in the opening round.
At Shelly Bay, FC Bascome Gold held their nerve from the penalty spot to eliminate Dandy Town following a pulsating 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The contest came alive late in the second half when Gebre Vickers broke the deadlock for Dandy Town in the 67th minute. Bascome responded instantly, with Eli Oduntan finding a dramatic equaliser on the 70-minute mark to send the tie straight to penalties.
Oduntan then joined Savio Goater, Declan O’Sullivan and Trevor Mills in converting from twelve yards, securing a 4-2 shootout victory despite successful kicks from Dandy Town duo Vickers and Royal Fubler-Tucker.
Over at Warwick Academy, Warwick FA Boca Juniors produced a stunning attacking clinic, brushing aside Vasco da Gama Red with an emphatic 21-0 triumph.
Ajani Trott stole the headlines with a sensational seven-goal haul, finding the net in the 14th, 31st, 33rd, 35th, 37th, 42nd and 43rd minutes. Makee Simmons set the tempo immediately with two goals inside the opening two minutes before adding two more in the second half to complete a four-goal display. Braces from Lenox Brown, Archie Astwood-Simmons, Owen Foster and Henry Mohs, alongside strikes from Will Leman and Eoin Muirhead, rounded out an extraordinary afternoon.
Warwick Academy also staged a thrilling encounter between Warwick FA River Plate and Vasco da Gama Green, where the visitors mounted an impressive comeback to prevail 3-2.
River Plate seized an early two-goal cushion courtesy of quickfire finishes from Maximillion Norton after eight minutes and Billy Brogden a minute later. Vasco answered back through King Phillips, who struck twice in ten minutes either side of a 17th-minute effort from Vasco Borges to turn the match on its head and seal a memorable fightback.
Elsewhere, Bernard Park witnessed a tough double header for North Village. Devonshire Colts proved clinical against NVCC Rams Red, securing a 3-0 away win with goals from Quaid Johnson, Thalion Pogson and Deaz Tear.
On the adjacent pitch, Somerset Trojans were equally dominant against NVCC Rams Whites, cruising to a 5-0 victory. Ryan Medeiros Tavares opened the scoring in the third minute before Reilly Williams struck twice in quick succession mid-way through the half. A 29th-minute finish from Zyare Ray and an unfortunate own goal shortly after the interval sealed Somerset’s passage into the next round.
