A competitive field took to the short-course lanes in Devonshire to blow off the cobwebs, with several of the island’s leading competitors immediately setting a high standard across the sprint disciplines.
Moore was in commanding form in the women’s 15 and over division, claiming a quickfire double. The international standout dominated the 50m backstroke, touching the wall in 28.03 seconds to finish comfortably clear of Paget Benevides, who stopped the clock in 49.02 seconds. Moore proved equally ruthless in the 50m butterfly, taking victory in 27.32 seconds ahead of Joy Yammine in second and Sofia Leclerc in third.
Williamson was similarly untroubled in the men’s 15 and over 50m backstroke. He powered to the wall in a brisk 26.75 seconds to secure top spot, finishing well ahead of runner-up Cameron Duda who recorded 36.49 seconds.
In the men’s 15 and over 100m freestyle, Joseph Lau edged a close battle to take the honours, dipping under the minute mark with a winning time of 58.00 seconds. Jasper Lau claimed second place in one minute 0.06 seconds, narrowly holding off Noah Fulton who touched home third in one minute 0.18 seconds.
Fulton bounced back to take top honours in the men’s 15 and over 50m breaststroke, leading the field home ahead of Gianluca Bortoli and Jens Drea.
The women’s 15 and over 50m breaststroke produced a gripping three-way finish, with Lila Connolly holding her nerve to secure victory in 40.22 seconds, fending off close challenges from Yammine in 41.12 seconds and Freya Lau in 41.41 seconds.
