Scatteraction claimed a dramatic victory on Race Day 20 of the Wednesday Night Sailing Series, overcoming line honours favourites on corrected time in a fiercely contested 31-boat fleet.
Crews faced testing conditions across the traditional route, battling their way out of Hamilton Harbour and into the expansive waters of the Great Sound before turning back towards the finish line.
The contest initially looked set to belong to Crossfire, who set a blistering pace on the water to cross the line first with an elapsed time of 38 minutes 45 seconds. However, once handicaps were factored in, a corrected mark of 42:44 relegated them to second spot overall.
It proved a similar story for second boat home Nasty Medicine. Despite stopping the clock in an impressive 40:06 elapsed, their corrected time of 43:59 was only enough to see them settle outside the podium spots in fourth.
Instead, the night belonged to Scatteraction. Crossing the line third on the water with an elapsed time of 44:09, their superior handicap adjustment yielded a winning corrected time of 41:47 — enough to pip Crossfire to top spot by just under a minute.
Menace produced a disciplined performance to secure third place on the podium with a corrected time of 43:48, while Airforce stopped the clock at 44:34 to round out the top five.
