Bermuda squash international Taylor Carrick mounted a resilient four-game fightback to see off France's Clément Leperlier in the opening round of the Men's Open Ville de Quebec.
Competing in the $9,000 PSA Challenger Tour event in Quebec City, Canada, Carrick survived an early scare before imposing his authority to seal a 3-1 victory after 51 minutes of absorbing court craft.
Leperlier edged a tightly contested opening game 11-9, capitalising on a couple of unforced errors from Carrick to seize the early momentum.
However, the Bermudian adjusted his tactics swiftly in the second. Dictating the pace from the 'T' and extending the rallies, Carrick pulled clear to level the contest with an emphatic 11-6 reply.
With the match delicately poised, Carrick maintained his ascendancy in the third, working his opponent into all four corners before closing out the game 11-7 to edge ahead.
Leperlier fought hard to force a decider in a physical fourth game, but Carrick's composure at the front of the court proved decisive. The Bermudian closed out an 11-8 win on his second match ball to book his place in the next round.
