A strong contingent of Bermudians played key roles as Thomas College produced a spirited fightback to defeat the University of Maine at Farmington 4-2.
Tre Burgess, Cody Robinson, Chance Eve, Justin Sukdeo, and T'syi Showers all featured for the Terriers in an open, pulsating contest that swung dramatically from end to end before a late two-goal salvo settled matters.
The match began at a frantic pace, with neither side willing to sit back. It was the Beavers who drew first blood in the 11th minute, breaking the deadlock when an inviting cross was met by an emphatic header to make it 1-0.
Thomas responded within six minutes through sharp, incisive combination play. Burgess and Robinson linked up smartly to supply David Ivarsson, who picked his spot and rolled a composed finish into the bottom right corner.
Maine-Farmington regained the advantage in the 23rd minute with a moment of quality, curling a strike into the top left corner to leave the visitors chasing the game once more.
Yet the Terriers refused to yield. Five minutes later, another crisp passing sequence carved open the Beavers' backline, allowing Robinson to apply a simple tap-in and level the scores at 2-2.
Goalkeeper Jamie Fischer then came to Thomas’ rescue with a succession of crucial stops to keep the scores tied heading into the interval.
Thomas seized control of territory and possession after the restart. Both Ivarsson and Robinson saw efforts fly agonisingly wide as the pressure steadily mounted, but the hosts held firm until the final ten minutes.
The decisive breakthrough arrived in the 81st minute from a set-piece routine. A long throw from Gustav Franzen was flicked on by Brynjar Johannsson into the path of Andrew Hodgins, who tucked the ball away to put the Terriers 3-2 ahead.
Before the Beavers could gather themselves, Thomas struck again barely sixty seconds later. Jeremiah Gomez cut inside from the flank and fired cleanly into the net to seal a two-goal cushion and wrap up an impressive conference victory.
