Bermudian forward Jace Donawa and his University of North Carolina team-mates struck seven minutes from time to salvage a hard-fought 2-2 draw against California.
The Tar Heels dominated the opening 40 minutes and deservedly broke the deadlock when Riley Berge found the net. However, the hosts produced a rapid turnaround just before the interval, striking twice in the final four minutes of the half to stun Carolina and take a 2-1 lead into the break.
The second period developed into a scrappy, contested battle, but the visitors’ persistence eventually told in the 83rd minute. Following a corner, Jonathan Luna Sabando fired in a bouncing delivery that Joschi Schelb cleverly redirected home to restore parity.
Both sides reached double figures in attempts, registering five shots on target apiece. North Carolina spent the majority of the night pressing on the front foot, earning nine corners to Cal’s four to secure a well-earned share of the spoils away from home.
