Bermuda’s sailors produced a tactical masterclass on the waters of Stockholm, highlighted by a sensational victory over defending champions Corinthian on Day 2 of the Team Racing World Championship.
The second day of competition in Sweden delivered high-octane drama and razor-thin margins, with Bermuda navigating a packed schedule to post a 3-2 record on the day, taking their overall standing to 8-7.
Tactical Precision Downs Reigning Champions
After closing out the first round-robin (RR1) with a narrow loss to Corinthian, Bermuda responded emphatically. Crisp boat handling and sharp mark-rounding saw them rattle off consecutive victories over Denmark and Japan, lifting their record to 7-6 and setting up a thrilling rematch against the titleholders.
In what proved to be the standout race of the day, Bermuda went toe-to-toe with Corinthian in a high-stakes tactical chess match.
Holding a strong 2-3 combination through the first three-quarters of the course, Bermuda seized their moment at the final windward mark—converting their positioning into a dominant 1-2 combination before pulling away to seal a statement victory.
Frith: "Pretty Happy Overall"
Bermuda's momentum was slightly checked in their final outing of the day, slipping to a defeat against high-flying hosts Sweden to wrap up the afternoon with eight wins from 15 races.
Speaking after racing concluded, Bermuda's Allan Frith remained upbeat about the squad's performance and trajectory:
"We're pretty happy overall. Beating Corinthian was a really good race, and Sweden is doing quite well overall at the event, so that's not really a bad loss."
With the team well in the mix among the world’s elite, Bermuda head into the next phase of the championship with confidence and key tactical momentum on their side.
