USA Cruise Past NextGen in Dominant World Cup Qualifier
The United States of America Under-19 women’s team handed Americas NextGen a convincing nine-wicket defeat in the opening round of the ICC U19 Women's World Cup Americas Qualifier.
Americas NextGen, coached by former Bermudian international Terry-Lynn Paynter, found it tough going with the bat after being sent in, collapsing to a meager total of 47 all out.
The US bowling attack proved relentless from the opening delivery, capitalizing on early movement to destabilize the
NextGen lineup. Bermuda's Ja’Shay Trott was among six batters who failed to trouble the scorekeepers as the top and middle order crumbled in rapid succession.
In response, the United States made light work of the modest target, knocking off the required runs in just a handful of overs to finish on 48-1.
Trott was handed the ball in the closing stages of the chase, finishing with figures of 0-8 from her 0.4 overs as the USA sealed a comprehensive victory with nine wickets in hand.
The result leaves NextGen with work to do as they look to bounce back in the next fixture of the tournament, while the USA lay down an early marker in their pursuit of World Cup qualification.
