Ryan Frost claimed a dramatic opening-race victory in the R&G Moto4 British Cup at Silverstone, emerging triumphant at the top of a frantic nine-rider showdown that went right down to the final corner.
Competing on the grand stage alongside the MotoGP World Championship, the rising stars of the Moto4 class delivered a classic spectacle around the iconic British circuit.
With slipstreaming and lead changes on virtually every lap, a pack of nine riders broke clear to contest the win. Frost held his nerve through the relentless wheel-to-wheel action, positioning his machine perfectly on the final lap to edge out his rivals at the chequered flag.
Further down the order, Bermudian rider Aeziah Divine turned in a heroic, determined performance for Fibre Tec Honda-By MLav Racing, battling all the way back to 11th place after grid drama threatened to derail his race before it even began.
Having qualified in 13th, Divine’s preparations were thrown into chaos when mechanics failed to start his bike before the mandatory cutoff time on the grid. With generators banned on the grid due to MotoGP operational regulations, crews were forced to start machines manually—a procedural tweak that caught out Divine’s garage and saw him pulled off into the pit lane.
Although his team managed to fire up the bike in time for the warm-up lap, the setback relegated the young Bermudian to the very back of the 23-rider field for the race start.
Undeterred by the mountain to climb, Divine produced a masterclass in overtaking across the high-speed 10-lap contest. Carving his way through the midfield pack, he thrust himself directly into the fight for the top 10, eventually crossing the line in 11th position to salvage a impressive result.
Reflecting on his recovery ride, Divine remained positive about the outcome despite the pre-race frustration.
“Back of the grid to P11—we’ll take what we can from that one,” Divine said. “It was a tricky opening race. While waiting for the start on the grid, we couldn’t get my bike on before the cutoff time so I was pulled off into pit lane.
“We were able to get it going again to make the warm-up lap, but this meant I had to start the race from the back of the grid in P23. I worked my way up to the fight for 10th and crossed the line in P11. I start from P10 on the grid tomorrow morning, so we will work really hard to be as close as we can to the front group.”
Divine’s charge from 23rd to 11th earns him an improved starting slot of 10th on the grid for the second race, leaving him well-placed to challenge the lead group on Sunday.
