Bermudian sprinter Miles Outerbridge placed 40th overall in the Men's 100m at the World Athletics U20 Championships at the iconic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Competing in Heat 6 of the preliminary rounds, the 18-year-old crossed the line in fifth position with a time of 10.52 seconds, finishing 40th out of 70 competitors in the opening round of the marquee event.
Reflecting on his performance after the race, Outerbridge revealed he competed through a toe injury suffered before the event.
"I just finished my 100," Outerbridge said. "I'm not feeling totally disappointed. I ran pretty well considering the time was not what I wanted to do."
"I have a slight injury in my toe—they said I basically tore a little bit of a ligament in my big toe on my right foot. Running through that kind of gave me time that I ran."
Despite the setback, the teenager remained proud of competing against the world's finest junior sprinters.
"I'm still not upset, totally. You know, able to come out to World U20s and still put up a decent fight against people who are the best in their own country. So I'm still very proud to be able to come out here and do that."
