Bermuda's athletes continued to produce impressive performances at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in the Dominican Republic, with Elan Daley reaching another swimming final, Elijah Daley rewriting the national record books, and the men's beach volleyball team securing a commanding victory.
Benjamin Barnett and Connor Somerville opened the day with a convincing win in Men's Group B beach volleyball, defeating the US Virgin Islands pairing of Cole Summer and De-andrae Taylor in straight sets, 21-13, 21-10.
In the pool at the Juan Pablo Duarte Aquatic Center, Elan Daley advanced to the women's 100m freestyle A Final after finishing second in her heat in 56.99 seconds, the fourth-fastest qualifying time. She returned to improve to 56.80 seconds in the final, placing ninth overall.
The standout performance came from Elijah Daley, who broke Bermuda's men's 200m butterfly national record twice in the same day. He first lowered the mark to 2:02.97 in the heats, eclipsing the 2:03.07 he had set at the 2024 CCCAN Championships. After qualifying seventh fastest for the A Final, Daley went even quicker, clocking 2:01.00 to rewrite the record once again while finishing seventh.
Sam Williamson also reached an A Final after placing third in his 400m individual medley heat in 4:40.89, the sixth-fastest qualifying time. He returned later in the day to finish seventh in the final with a time of 4:41.91.
On the bowling lanes, Bermuda's trios teams produced closely matched performances. Anthony Hayward, Shannon Lee and Dennis Joell finished 15th with 3,010 pins, while David Maycock, Levinc Samuels and Lamar Richardson were one place behind in 16th with 3,003 pins.
It was another encouraging day for Bermuda, highlighted by record-breaking swims and strong performances across multiple sports as the CAC Games continue.
