The Bermuda Football Association has confirmed it has received correspondence from FIFA President Gianni Infantino outlining a controversial proposal that could see each of the world's 211 member associations receive $40 million in funding.
Infantino has written to every national association seeking support for plans to establish a new commercial subsidiary to manage FIFA's flagship competitions, including the FIFA World Cup. Under the proposal, outside investors would be able to purchase stakes in the new entity.
Bermuda Football Association President Mark Wade confirmed to www.islandstats.com, that the island's governing body had received the letter detailing the offer.
FIFA has set a deadline of September 19th for member associations to back the proposal if they are to receive an initial $20 million payment, with the remaining funding linked to the wider implementation of the plan.
The proposal has, however, drawn criticism within world football.
CONCACAF, the regional governing body for North and Central America and the Caribbean, said it was only made aware of the plans through media reports before later receiving a FIFA media release.
In a strongly worded statement, CONCACAF expressed "deep concern" over what it described as a lack of due process, adding that major decisions affecting the future of the game should be guided by "good governance, robust processes and long-term stewardship."
The confederation said it expected all members of the FIFA family to follow those principles as discussions over one of the most significant commercial proposals in football continue.
