The Bermuda Pacers made a positive start to the 2026 Russell E. Blunt East Coast Invitational, securing a silver medal, three places in event finals and two personal best performances on the opening day of competition at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
The club's lone medal of the day came in the Girls' 13-14 Triple Jump, where Amaya Davis produced a leap of 10.64m (34ft 11in) to finish second and claim the silver medal.
On the track, three Bermuda Pacers athletes safely negotiated the qualifying rounds to book their places in the 200m finals.
Raelyn Robinson advanced from the Girls' 8 & Under division after clocking 32.82 seconds to finish third in her preliminary race, while Nico Simmons topped the Boys' 9-10 preliminaries with an impressive winning time of 28.03.
Amara Samuel also progressed to the final after finishing seventh overall in the Girls' 15-16 preliminaries in 25.76.
Elsewhere, there were two personal best performances for the Bermuda team. Skye Furbert recorded a lifetime best of 31.42 in the Girls' 9-10 200m, while Brianna Lightbourne lowered her previous mark with a time of 27.13 in the Girls' 15-16 event.
Other Bermuda Pacers athletes narrowly missed out on qualification, with Jasmine Reid-Rubaine finishing ninth in the Girls' 13-14 200m in 26.77, Jadon Lightbourne placing ninth in the Boys' 13-14 race with 25.11, and Theodore Smith clocking 30.92 to finish 16th in the Boys' 9-10 division
With three finalists still to compete and confidence boosted by a medal-winning performance and a pair of personal bests, the Bermuda Pacers will look to build on their encouraging opening day when competition resumes.
