Saurabh Rawat produced a superb all-round display to guide Bishopston CC to a convincing six-wicket victory over Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC in their West of England Premier Cricket League clash.
The Bristol & North Somerset division encounter at Westbury Fields saw the visitors put up a highly competitive total, but they were ultimately undone by Rawat's brilliance with both ball and bat.
Having won the toss on a good batting surface, Bristol West Indian Phoenix elected to set a target. They recovered from early setbacks to post a formidable 250/8 from their allotted 50 overs.
Ashur Morrison was the anchor for the visitors, playing a fluent knock of 67 to lay the foundations of the innings.
As the overs ticked away, Bermudian international Cameron Jeffers provided much-needed late acceleration. Jeffers finished unbeaten on a crucial 35*, showing excellent composure to guide the tail and push his side past the 250-mark.
However, Bishopston's Saurabh Rawat ensured the target remained within reach, finishing as the pick of the home bowling attack with figures of 3/55 from his 10 overs.
In response, Bishopston's chase was calculated and clinical. The home side knocked off the runs with overs to spare, reaching 253/4 to seal the maximum points.
Fittingly, it was Rawat who steered his side over the line. Backing up his three-wicket haul in the first innings, he anchored the chase with an unbeaten 67*, showing nerves of steel under pressure.
Phoenix struggled to build sustained pressure on a flattening pitch. Rushabh Yadav offered the tidiest resistance with the ball, taking 1/24 from his five overs, while Jeffers claimed 1/31 from his five-over spell.
But their efforts were not enough to halt Bishopston's march, leaving Jeffers and his Phoenix teammates to reflect on what might have been ahead of their next league outing.
