Bermudian tennis prospect Trey Mallory has bowed out of the M15 Monastir tournament in Tunisia after a hard-fought defeat in the second qualifying round.
Mallory, who is continuing his development on the ITF World Tennis Tour, suffered a straight-sets 7-6, 6-3 loss to France’s Loan Lestir on the Tunisian hard courts.
Mallory pushed his French opponent all the way to a first-set tiebreak, showing impressive resilience, before Lestir narrowly edged it out.
With momentum on his side, Lestir managed to break the Bermudian’s serve in the second set to seal a 6-3 victory.
The M15 Monastir event is part of the competitive ITF Men's World Tennis Tour, serving as a crucial proving ground for rising international talent.
While it is a disappointing exit for Mallory, the opening set performance against Lestir proves the young Bermudian has the quality to compete at this level.
The ITF circuit is notoriously unforgiving, with fine margins often deciding matches. Mallory's ability to force a tiebreak in the opener shows his grit, but Lestir’s consistency in the crucial moments of the second set ultimately made the difference.
Mallory will look to take the lessons from this North African stint into his next tour appearance as he continues to climb the international rankings.
